Socially condemning people’s actions is a phenomenon we frequently witness in our society and many other societies.

However, the only shame is in shaming what is not shameful! In this workshop, we aim to bring back to people life and colours that were stripped away from them under the name of  ‘Shame culture’ .

In an intimate setting of 10 people, after discussing the concept of shame in the Arab world, its definition and implications, I asked the audience to write down an incident or a personal story where they felt oppressed and restricted by this culture on the canvas provided. The purpose of this exercise was to allow people let out and express in order to eventually let go. I then asked them to paint over what they wrote using fluid acrylic colors of their choice that represent beauty, boldness, strength or even healing creating beautiful art pieces.
